The United National Congress’ family is deeply saddened at the passing of Dr. Rupert Griffith, an accomplished professional, devoted public officer and party stalwart.
Dr.
Griffith’s death is distressing news to the UNC, which has always held him in high regard and to which he was deeply committed and served with great distinction.
With his academic achievements, even temperament, outstanding work ethic and humble personality, Dr.
Griffith was called to serve the nation in several capacities over a 25-year period.
He distinguished himself in each of his postings.
Dr. Griffith, who was first elected as Member of Parliament in 1991, served for a period of time as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives during that electoral term.
He was re-elected as a Member of Parliament in 1995, and, in 1997, he joined the Cabinet of the UNC’s administration as Minister of Information, Communication, Training and Distance Education.
