    Satyajit Ray (Bengali pronunciation:[ˈʃotːodʒitˈrae̯]; 2 May – 23 April ) was an Indian film director, screenwriter, author, lyricist, magazine editor, illustrator, calligrapher, and composer.

    Ray was born in Calcutta to author Sukumar Ray and Suprabha Ray.
